- Prioritize deep links
Avoid simply linking to high authority pages, such as your homepage or about page. These pages generally already get sufficient links. Instead, make sure your distribution of links is more evenly spread.
- Create natural links
Streamline your text in such a way that the links seems logical. Do not talk about peanut butter, and then all of sudden link to the Olympics. It confuses not only the reader, but also Google.
The topics between the targeted link and the source need to have a clear relation.
- Make different anchor text versions
If you link to a page multiple times from different articles, then it is wise to alter the anchor text. Do not copy and match the exact title of your targeted link. It is fine to do it once so often, but for SEO purposes, it is better to use relevant and matching phrases.
- Keep an eye on the number of links
It would be a shame to go overboard with your internal linking. Keep it at a decent level and try not to breach the magic number of 100 links per page.
- Create awesome content
Of course, if you want to implement an effective internal linking SEO system, then you need to have high-value content. Before writing a piece of text, think about the relationship it could potentially have with older content.
If your site is not multi-topic, this should be easy to do. Just break down a major topic in multiple sub-topics. You can then just interlink these articles.
- Increase the links to high converting pages
Have you noticed pages converting better than others? For instance: gaining subscribers, selling products or services, social media shares…
Why not take the opportunity to increase these conversions even further?
Link to these kind of pages and take full advantage of their high conversion rates.
